Two recent WLOS-TV news stories have highlighted the band’s preparation to participate in the Tournament of Roses Bandfest on Dec. 30 and the Rose Parade on Jan. 1.
“Tournament of Roses bound” – Friday, Dec. 10, 2010
ThisĀ news story includes comments about how the band learned of the invitation to march in the Rose Parade, footage of the band rehearsing the field show “Rock U,” the speed of the band as it moves across the field (180 beats per minute – a speed band director Bob Buckner has said means one false step could bring down multiple band members!) and what it means to the group to go the Rose Parade.
“WCU band practices on the highway” – Sunday, Dec. 19, 2010
This news story covers the closing of a portion of a highway adjacent to the WCU campus – N.C. 107 – to enable the band to practice marching on pavement as they will in the Rose Parade on Jan. 1. Also interviewed are band fans who came out on a windy Sunday afternoon to watch. (To see some other committed fans who came out to visit on Sunday, watch the homemade video by Todd and Griffin Murdock to see what Griffin says he likes about the band.)
